Mistress Agnes Buys a Rat

DSCF3042Rats be such wonderous creatures. One can cut off the tail and use it for a tooth-pick, a dead rat doth help the cider to ferment and it can always be slipped into the pottage when none be noticing. Oft-times we do persuade our local rat-catcher to provide us with such useful animals. There be many about just now as 40,000 dogs and 200,000 cats have been killed (figures from Daniel Defoe’s Journal of the Plague Year) to stop the spread of plague, which some do believe they cause. Us, we just blame the miasmas.
